- foreverobama 2y ago[dead]
- nikitaga 2y agoThat's manufacturing of solar modules, specifically. Is it safe to assume that most of them are made from Chinese solar cells?
- kmbfjr 2y agoNot at all safe to assume that. https://www.firstsolar.com/en/Products/Series-7 https://www.firstsolar.com/en/Products/Series-7 Glass goes in, module comes out…at an astounding rate of production.

- frankharv 2y agoBig Oil Companies like BP make good 30 year panels. How ironic.
- frankharv 2y agoWeirdly the "Quality" companies that might be around in 30 years are getting out of the business. BP and Panasonic come to mind. Here is the list of current Tier One producers. https://pswenergy.com.au/tier-1-solar-panels/ https://pswenergy.com.au/tier-1-solar-panels/ Can you imagine a company named "Jinko" being around in 30 years to service the warranty? https://www.jacksonville.com/story/business/manufacturing/2023/05/11/jinkosolar-chinese-company-operates-jacksonville-florida-factory/70203219007/ https://www.jacksonville.com/story/business/manufacturing/20...

- frankharv 2y agoSome shell companies setup to collect government green bucks. We all know this article is full of crap. What state is the leading producer?
- mensetmanusman 2y agoLooked into solar, annualized return around 4.5% after inflation reduction act incentives. Also hurts to have child tax credits count first if you have a few kids as the feds won’t reimburse if you go below zero too much. Still makes sense to pay off the mortgage.
- malshe 2y agoI am assuming you are in the US. Is the low return on solar due to high installation costs, particularly labor? At least in Texas, this is the reason commonly given by people. My friend installed it all by himself. He has a large yard with limited tree cover so he didn't have to install it on the roof. He told me he saved thousands even after accounting for his time.
- mensetmanusman 2y agoYes, also our state doesn’t force utilities to pay you market rate for the power generated in excess.
