The fleet explanation only really makes sense for a handful of vehicle makes and models. I can't imagine fleet sales of Mazdas make much of a dent in their market, but most Mazdas are still pretty bland colors.

Also, that's not a new phenomenon, so it's not going to explain a recent decrease in color.

Most Mazdas I see on the road are the default Mazda red. Which is not so bland. However their neighbours at Honda only seem to have desaturated colours that may as well be grey...
