Truck: a Rust CAD Kernel
- 01HNNWZ0MV43FF 2y agoI heard it said that CAD kernels are extremely hard to write. Any CAD experts know if Truck is good or not?
- ofrzeta 2y agoThere's a bit of discussion on Truck in the recent thread about CADmium https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40428827 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40428827

- drbig 2y agoOk, so this is a single person's (math PhD no less) Rust project that's just the kernel, that also happens to not support Linux. I have a feeling that getting from this to anything useful for mechanical engineering is a long, looong, looooong way away. Meanwhile, in my little land of utility-first, Inkscape proves to be the minimal viable solution, and when I need more then qcad does the job. Any suggestions of other tools that happen to support Linux is much welcome. I also wish luck and perseverance to the Truck's author. They gonna need it.
- yencabulator 2y ago> also happens to not support Linux What makes you say that? Nothing in the code jumps out as being platform-dependent, and the primary compilation target seems to be wasm.
