Ask HN: Recommended programming language expect PHP
Good evening. I study programming PHP and want to study other one.
What programming language do you suggest?
- billy99k 2y agoPascal or Visual basic
- kusaimara 2y agoIt's a language I don't hear much these days. What purpose is it used?
- gus_massa 2y agoI still think that Classic Visual Basic 6 is the best tool to make a small app with a user friendly GUI that has a few buttons and you can distribute to end users and they can just click, be happy and think you are some kind of genius. Anyway, it's kind of dead :( , so I don't recomend to start with it now. I'm still amazed how much I could do with a dozen of lines of PHP and Javascript, and make a simple web app, that I can deploy anywhere and my colegues be happy because I solver our problem. (I never used Pascal (well, perhaps a hundred of LOC in total), but the old Borland Pascal compiler was extremly fast and good when it was released.)
- pwg 2y agoIf you want to study one that is in a somewhat different vein, TCL will give you a broader viewpoint. Its syntax tends somewhat towards the LISP end of the spectrum. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tcl https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tcl
- tithos 2y agoLiterally any other lang. lol
- pestatije 2y agosince u know (or will know) server-side...go for the rest: html, css, javascript
- bhu1st 2y agoDid you dislike PHP? If no build a couple of projects in PHP first before learning another language.
- kusaimara 2y agoNo, I like PHP. I make some program.
- gus_massa 2y agoThe question is what do you want to do? Do you want to continue programing web apps in the server? It's not my area, so you may look a better opinion, but i suggest https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Node.js https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Node.js and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TypeScript https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TypeScript
