  I wonder why they moved away from the liquid cooling idea to heat tiles.

    Probably because mass of tiles would be less than mass of coolant.

      And moving cryogenic fuel around is a frequent source of problems. You can't scrub re-entry because a valve is stuck like you can a launch.
