This will be crammed into my Twitter feed relentlessly.
Unlike today's successful Boeing launch, which wasn't in the feed or any trending topics whatsoever.
Twitter is only a news source for topics with benefits.
- admissionsguy 2y agoJust that? Nothing to do with the difference in potential of those two projects?
- rvnx 2y agonote: the Boeing flight is literally one position below this thread though it's 24 hours+ old
- slimebot80 2y agoOn HN, yes. My point is about Musk's news service that he promotes as vastly superior.
- adolph 2y agoAlso latest Starliner news is at top of ars right now: https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/06/after-a-successful-launch-boeings-starliner-runs-into-more-helium-leaks/ https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/06/after-a-successful-lau...
- slimebot80 2y agoSure both projects have their own potentials and use cases. My comment is more about how Twitter is misused.
- ta1243 2y agoThere is no comparison between starship and Boeing. The comparission would be a Crew Dragon and Boeing. When Crew Dragon first launched back in 2020 it was news -- i.e. it was literally NEW. They were the first people to launch into space from the US since the shuttle retired. Crew Dragon last launched in March, and I certainly didn't see anything about it, it's business as usual.
- slimebot80 2y agoNot my point. Both are relevant to people and only one is considered "news".
- chpatrick 2y agoIt's certainly less newsworthy to repeat a similar feat years later.
- ta1243 2y agoNews is literally what's new. A new A350 flew from Qatar to London today. The first time the A350 flew it was news. Today it's not.
- kolinko 2y agoPeople care less about whoever comes second - especially when they are 4 years too late.
- openmarmot 2y agoBoeing launch was yesterday. Every space account on X was talking about it. The ULA, Boeing, and NASA accounts were all posting about it. Elon retweeted the livestream and wished them luck : https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1798338630471364871 https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1798338630471364871 He also congratulated them and retweeted a follow up post from Nasa Kennedy Space center.

- slimebot80 2y agoYes! my point exactly. Amazing how these posts are stifled and disappear quickly. Yet, multiple culture warrior / dogecoin accounts posting a spacex rocket photo gets pumped into my timeline.
