Artificial intelligence is running for mayor of Cheyenne
- iwontberude 2y agoThe article has a source link which leads to a 404.
- pvaldes 2y agoThis (apparently) innocent joke shouldn't be even allowed. It is assumed that you need to be granted the US citizen first to opt to some government positions. AI can't have citizenship by definition. In the same way as a bike made in US can't enjoy the same rights as a child born in US. So would set a backdoor for private companies to hijack the rights to manage the funds of entire cities. Even more, if US citizenship is not needed anymore anybody could use this as a magic carpet to jump over immigration rules. Could run for mayor while sitting at their home in Latvia or Sudan. If elected couldn't work or live in US legally. Government would need to grant a lightning fast Visa or the position would remain empty but blocked four years. and if they do it the frontiers would collapse in two months.
- rulalala 2y agoOh the collapse of frontiers, that Fearful catastrophic event of our time, that we need to keep mantra-ing, less we forget the dangers of migration.
- pvaldes 2y ago> Oh the collapse of frontiers, that Fearful catastrophic event of our time Our current history will be defined in future history books by multiple frontier collapses and border conflicts for sure. Is happening right now.
- jameslk 2y agoI think a citizen making governing decisions on behalf of an LLM would be more realistic to work, legally. An AI-enhanced mayor, if you will.

- sollniss 2y agoI like the idea of Evangelion where there is three AIs with different priorities voting for decisions.
- _lvbh 2y ago> there is a dedicated team of human collaborators > from OpenAI How long until we have corporate controlled counties with “AI” as a front?
- yencabulator 2y agoIt's not AI, it's a random person using a pseudonym and a computer. > Jones said her office verified that the individual running as VIC was a registered voter and that they resided in Wyoming. Then, Jones and her department sent those over to the Laramie County Clerk’s Office.
