That's about the GDP of France, I can't see how it makes sense.

- hippich 2y agoThis is actually an interesting way to look at it... Can a whole country produce a company like Nvidia in one year? Or how much it will cost to create Nvidia today from scratch, and how long it would take?
- lucisferre 2y agoBecause it makes an exciting sounding headline that means nothing practically speaking.
- ben_w 2y agoBecause they're both measured in terms of money, and humans tend to ignore time-derivatives. (The latter point is also why so many mix up energy and power).
- gizajob 2y agoYeah but it’s a useful metric - if everyone in France dedicated all their productive output for this entire year, they could swap that output for a company of a few thousand people that makes microchips.
