The largest event in the world for hams is the Dayton (Ohio) Hamvention. I think its been around since the fifties. I haven't attended since the mid-seventies but people come from around the world. I cannot believe that it is a coincidence with all the ARRL staffers in Dayton that is when the ARRL got hacked.
