I gave 2 countries as an example where quality of life is decreasing because they ignored the very real numbers. Yes, their happiness was quite high for awhile.
If I were to take a generic imaginary G8 country where im tracking only happiness and let these real numbers slip. Happiness is going go sky high temporarily, until those real numbers matter a great deal. Then you have a collapse, like we are seeing.
They are now living a horror situation.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoI recently spent some time in Portugal (and Spain), and I would not consider it a horror situation. I cannot speak to Ireland. Decline of economic growth is inevitable with fertility rates rapidly declining globally. The world is getting old, people will need to be taken care of, and there will simply be less juice to squeeze (which only existed for the last several decades because of the global population boom from lack of family planning access and cohorts of women who weren’t empowered). https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/charted-the-worlds-aging-population-1950-to-2100/ https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/charted-the-worlds-aging... https://www.healthdata.org/news-events/newsroom/news-releases/lancet-dramatic-declines-global-fertility-rates-set-transform https://www.healthdata.org/news-events/newsroom/news-release... https://ourworldindata.org/fertility-rate#what-explains-the-declining-fertility-rate https://ourworldindata.org/fertility-rate#what-explains-the-...

Sorry, misused the word you used. >Decline of economic growth is inevitable with fertility rates rapidly declining globally. Well, not exactly. If you're germany, uk, usa, or canada with extreme immigration numbers to never decline. Then there will be no economic decline for us. In fact, each of those immigrants is presumed without any debt and starting over. Very quickly starts contributing to our community. That's what's going to make this population decline and aging situation much worse for them. >The world is getting old, people will need to be taken care of, and there will simply be less juice to squeeze (which only existed for the last several decades because of the global population boom from lack of family planning access and cohorts of women who weren’t empowered). Are robot butlers going to be in time is the question. Wealthy retirees needing discrete help is going to have a huge budget. But so does factory work and labour in general. We are going to rapidly move from a doing things culture to a service and creation culture. There's also 4 key countries with high education and are already service and creation.
