I worked for a company that hired a lot of developers straight out of college and I found myself doing a lot of essentially developer mentoring and encountered this daily. I would have to stop and ask "What are you trying to do?" but I found people would find this grating. There's definitely a balance where sometimes you just need to let them learn from experience.
