Spotify hikes prices after CEO's remark: creating 'content' is 'close to zero'

- jfengel 2y agoCrucial words omitted in the headline: the cost of creating content is close to zero. Which is incredibly aggravating. He knows perfectly well that some songs sell better than others, and they are rarely the ones generated on the cheap. You can get vast amounts of generic "content" for near-free. Nobody wants it because it's not any good. As the artists are fond of saying, "The time it took to create that painting was ten minutes plus forty years". Musicians practice for years before creating great songs. If he's got a tool for finding gems among the vast amount of dross, fantastic, sell the hell out of that. But right now the art (of all kinds) that sells is the kind where somebody cares a lot and pushed like crazy to get it out there.
