Any downsides? In particular, will games work? Visual Studio?

  There really isn’t any downsides. No feature updates? So if something fancy comes out LTSC doesn't get that just much later (and even then almost everything is removed). The only thing I can imagine if there is some bleeding edge hardware feature that needs the newest Windows version because of drivers, API etc. and that won't work.
