Whole Foods represents the failures of 'conscious capitalism'
- JohnFen 2y ago> What does that say about the conscious capitalism it championed? It might be hard to disentangle things enough to even be able to tell if it says anything at all about "conscious capitalism". Whole Foods in my town lost a ton of customers just because Amazon bought them. But I also live in a town where Whole Foods has a great deal of competition, which likely skews the reaction here.
- smarm52 2y ago> John Mackey, the company’s chief executive, has long argued that Whole Foods is wired differently — that it runs on a “conscious capitalism” model that outsmarts the competitive pressures of our for-profit system through creativity and innovation. So ... he said things and people believed him? No evidence? > We can avert looming environmental catastrophe by becoming conscious consumers who frequent conscious companies. After all, shopping at Whole Foods is a heck of a lot more fun than lobbying for regulations on corporations or convincing people to consume less. And it was just a fancy advertising campaign designed to appeal to Millenials and GenZ, as the "geniuses" in marketing call "socially responsible marketing". https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahlandrum/2017/03/17/millennials-driving-brands-to-practice-socially-responsible-marketing/?sh=6c2b54364990 https://www.forbes.com/sites/sarahlandrum/2017/03/17/millenn...
