Tech salaries in London does not make any sense?
Some of the jobs are paying like 30-40K GBP a year for gross income. That can't even give average lifestyle in London? Is slavery back with extra steps or what are they even thinking?
- talldayo 2y agoA lot of the entry-level positions in the US are pretty similar, if you aren't being disproportionately compensated for living expenses. Outside of San Fransisco this is pretty much considered average compensation at the bottom of the ladder.
- mytailorisrich 2y agoWell the median income in the whole of the UK is 35k... that amount for a job within London is not great, indeed. They complain that they can't find "talent", and my cynical take is that the scheme is to get immigrants on sponsored visas who will do that to get to the UK then move job when they can.
- AnimalMuppet 2y agoOf course they can't find talent at that price in that location. They either need to decide they can't afford to pay decent wages (and therefore go out of business), or decide that they can (and start doing so). As a bonus, if enough of the bottom feeders go out of business, demand for living in London might go down, and housing could become a bit more affordable there. Or it's a scam to try for cheap immigrants, as you say. If that's the case, they need to be rebuffed by the immigration service.
- colesantiago 2y agoTech salaries are poverty in London, house prices and rent are still rising, a friend of mine could not even afford rent and is still employed at a tech company. Startups like Wayve AI most recently raised $1BN in the UK and still pays AI engineers lower than US peers. Only FAANG and banking can pay high salaries in London.
