I'm not excited for hybrids. The Dodge Charger Daytona EV excites me, but a hybrid sports car? For the tiny number of these that will end up on the road, is the total fuel savings really meaningful? Does anyone buying a Corvette even think about mileage?
- baldeagle 2y agoI think these are more like EV boosted hybrids that’ll gas savers… though the Chevy will do much better in traffic with a few miles of energy stored up.
- dagw 2y agoI don't know about Corvette, but I've known a few people who daily drive their 911s as their main or even only car. I guess these people might care a bit.
- PaulHoule 2y agoHybrids have some real advantages in motorsports, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_P1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_P1 where the hybrid propulsion system makes up for turbo lag and I believe was the first boosted car McLaren made because McLaren's brand promise is responsiveness. Even people who aren't bothered by the fuel consumption of their hobby might be influenced by the tax the EU puts on high-displacement engines. I think nobody is going to disrespect the P1 as a sports car though.
