In my experience, the best kind of assessment for Software jobs is a reasonable take-home project that involves a private repo that you fork, work on adding a feature or fixing a bug, and then send a PR.
It's much closer to day to day work than code challenges are, it doesn't involve the stress factor of an interviewer staring at you while you work on a leetcode, and you can have a followup technical interview to discuss the take-home in more detail.
The most recent take-home experience like this that I saw was with Clipboard health, and I thought it was a great experience. If I remember correctly, they used Woven Teams to automate the process.
