Non story.
The UK Employment Tribunal deals with about 100,000 cases pa.
The linked article is based on 27 “mentions” of remote working in the first half of 2023, 42 in 2022, 27 in 2021, 16 in 2020, and 6 in 2019.
So that’s a significant rise in an insignificant number.
Oh, those mentions were across 42 tribunals (eg disability claims) and not just the employment tribunal. And the “mentions” may have played no significant part in either the claim or the decision. In fact, there’s no mention of the success of the claims.
Stories like this are cooked up by firms like the “employee relations expert” company named in the story, latched onto by a hack looking for a story, fed quotes by a book of law firms who like their name in print, and ultimately end up on pages like this, all from an intern doing ctrl-F on a web page of tribunal decisions one afternoon.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of cases relating to potential infractions of protected characteristics (your typical “-ism”s) go underreported.
