.ai domain registrations generated 20% of Anguilla's government annual revenue
- ggm 2y agoThis doesn't always end well. I believe .tv Had issues around governance, and contract. Sometimes, the nation-state wants the income more than it wants ownership but if the domain takes off then the revenue flows can be complicated by commercial behaviour. I think it best if the economy retains substantive ownership of the registry, the ICANN contract, the function, and leases the operations. I don't know how Anguilla did it, but I do believe it's been painful for some island economies who got caught out (.nu maybe?)
