I've spent many years in the USA. It's got its merits, but generally, I prefer it up here.
Things I like about it here:
- We have a functioning federal government that can still pass bills; cf https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/30/us/politics/house-retirees.html?searchResultPosition=7 https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/30/us/politics/house-retiree...
- Our infrastructure is significantly less crumbly; I trust our bridges
- I enjoy not being shot randomly
- CBC Music (formerly CBC 2) is kind of amazing right now; I always used to regret that we didn't have NPR, but the deep-dives into jazz, blues, opera, classical, and R&B are national treasures; _After Dark_ is nearly always on in my home as I read myself to sleep.
