Ford restores grandeur to Detroit train station that once symbolized decline
- rmason 2y agoThis is currently the biggest story here in Michigan. As a native Detroiter I was anxious to take one of the tours but didn't move fast enough as they were sold out in hours. The concert that Eminem is producing sold out within minutes. I remember visiting the station with my Dad in the sixties when it had not yet declined. Took a train there in the early seventies and it was already in decline. Ford spent hundreds of millions more than they planned. The windows were all blown out, much of the decor had been looted. It took them months to pump out the water in the basement only to find a second sub-basement that was also full of water ;<(. On the plus side Ford made a public request for people to return what had been looted with no questions asked and got back 80% of what they wanted and even a few things they never even knew they were missing. If you visit don't forget to explore NewLab next door which is full of startups.
