Boeing Should Dump Spaceships to Focus on Airplanes
- JumpCrisscross 2y agoSplit up the company: defence, civil air and civil space. Restructure and re-capitalise each and let them focus on what they're good at.
- panick21_ 2y agoWhat makes you think they are good at civil space?
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> What makes you think they are good at civil space? Never said that. Splitting up a company doesn't necessarily mean every bit is individually sustainable. Those assets are probably better husbanded by their competitors.
- ulfw 2y agoThey can't stand on their feet with their civil airplane division. It's a clusterfuck.
- stuckkeys 2y agoBut if they do that, then they lose the government incentive funding. They also collab with NASA, so this would not be ideal. It just needs the right team.
- wkat4242 2y agoNah. They should reorganise and focus on quality again. Remove the McDonnell corner cutters and promote the people with the right attitude. Once they do that they can do rockets and planes just fine. If they just dump one of their activities without change they'll just keep doing the other one poorly. It needs to come from top down: quality quality quality. It can work. The company I worked for was heavily hit by wannacry and after that it was really different. Finally us in cyber had the last word instead of being overruled. It took a year but we got there. Although unfortunate corporate memory was short and the attention lapsed again.
- GianFabien 2y agoEver since McDonnell-Douglas biz types moved HQ from Seattle to Chicago it's been downhill. Outsourcing has finessed the financials but decimated the engineering talent and institutional knowledge.
- GianFabien 2y agoBoeing has been growing its ranks of biznoids and letting the graybeard engineers retire. Smart keen young engineers would rather go work at Space-X than Boeing.
