The problem is the design of the system and the programs. It should not handle by the apps/services but you can use your own programs for encryption, for display, etc, and can be used separately. If the data is really end-to-end encrypted then the service and apps should not care what they are; the user should care based on what programs they install to handle them. Additionally, it says photos, videos, links, but you can make any data represented as other files e.g. text, slowscan, steganography, etc.
