People Still Want Gas Cars over Hybrids and EVs: Study
- dsq 2y agoI Have the feeling that it also matters if it’s the sole household vehicle or one out of two or three vehicles. I could see an EV being more palatable if there is an existing ICE, as it removes the long distance range anxiety.
- b112 2y agoThey don't even indicate PHEV vs hybrid! Hybrid is often just slightly better gas range, but gas engine regardless. You pay more, and might break even years later. PHEVs often (these days) have 60mi range, or more on battery, but you have no range anxiety with gas backup. It's a big difference.
- jqpabc123 2y agoPeople pay a huge price for prestige and lack of creativity. The most cost effective solution for a lot (if not most) people would be a cheap EV. For those occasional long trips, simply rent an ICE vehicle. For about $75 a day in most areas, you can get a mid-sized one with unlimited mileage. Tesla and most other EVs currently being sold in the USA are not exactly *cheap*. Marketing, profit extraction and politics have a lot to do with this. This would likely change over time if market conditions warrant it.
- simonblack 2y agoUntil the EV infrastructure is in place which is as good as the ICE infrastructure, EVs will be the 'poor cousins' of transport. But companies and governments just won't (can't !) spend the trillions of dollars necessary.
- fragmede 2y agoThat's exactly what Tesla did with their Supercharger network.
- simonblack 2y agoOnly in certain areas. The nearest Tesla Supercharger to me is 341 miles away. Meanwhile, I would have literally thousands of 90+ octane-rating pumps for ICEs within that distance.
