AFAIK this isn’t because of the security updates but because the filesystem becomes fragmented and spinning disk is awful at random seek. Defrag helps a little

AFAIK this isn’t because of the security updates but because the filesystem becomes fragmented and spinning disk is awful at random seek. Defrag helps a little but nothing like having big files laid out contiguously.
