Whatever Happened to the Thin X11 Terminals? (2001)
- transfire 2y agoYou can still do this. Hey, you could even use a Raspberry Pi as a terminal. Not sure how the advent of Wayland changes things, but I would hope its creators would have the good sense to still make it possible.
- utensil4778 2y agoWayland doesn't support network display like X does. You pretty much just have to use a third party VNC/RDP server on top of Wayland.
- shawn_w 2y agoMy first exposure to Unix was at college in computer labs full of X terminals all logging in to Alpha servers running Digital Unix (it was a DEC school). Then I installed RedHat on my own computer, and didn't even own a computer running Windows for the next 20 years... Lots of nostalgia for that kind of environment.
- tgma 2y agoNow the application processor is so cheap that Apple puts one in their display out of spite. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Studio_Display#:~:text=The%20Studio%20Display%20includes%20an,power%20audio%20and%20webcam%20processing https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Studio_Display#:~:text=T....
