I don't think we're as rare as you think we are.
- smt88 2y agoYou can be "not that rare" and still not worth producing a car for. We've seen the same thing with small phones.
- constantcrying 2y agoBesides the legal aspects (which prohibit sich cars from existing), such a car needs to be largely developed from scratch, as it obviously can't use any of the existing E/E, so a new one has to de developed, this includes essentially a new platform development with the new E/E. I can only guess the development costs, but they will be somewhere in the billions. There is no way any car manufacturer is stupid enough for that.
- renewiltord 2y agoNiche markets always think that. But often the cost of providing approaches the cost of independent design partnering with a manufacturer. So you're probably only 20% price increase away from co-opping it. And everyone who has tried to sell anything knows that "I would pay for that" are words most commonly spoken by people who assuredly would not pay for that.
- kube-system 2y agoThere is a huge market for cheaper cars. But, that market is also served by used cars, which are larger and more comfortable. Used cars outsell new cars by about 3:1 in the US. And if you look at the actual sales figures for the cheapest new cars on the US market, the situation is clear: buyers prefer nicer used cars to minimalistic new cars.
