- constantcrying 2y agoFisker isn't a car manufacturer. They didn't do the manufacturing. They even didn't do that much development on the actual car.
- dingaling 2y agoIronically, Henrik Fisker's first Fisker company (2007-16) was a coachbuilder for luxury marques, doing bespoke manufacturing.
- Rinzler89 2y agoFrisker doesn't really have manufacturing issues because they're not a manufacturer. They subcontracted manufacturing to a a partner with ~80 years of experience in car building and design.
- AlbertCory 2y agoOK, sorry, I missed that. But that bit about the wheel spacers is a classic "I don't understand the car-building business" mistake. And the customer service and spare parts issues are, as well.
- wannacboatmovie 2y agoCreating a "fabless" car company is up there with such great ideas like building basement apartments in Venice.
- Rinzler89 2y agoIDK what you mean. There are loads of niche fabless car companies. They won't be the next VW or Toyota so you wont find their dealerships everywhere and models for every budget, but they're fine catering to the wealthy man or woman who wants something different than your average mass produced luxury German, British or American car, to stand out.
- _mlbt 2y agoAt this point the problem with EVs aren’t the cars themselves. The problem is finding a way to solve range anxiety. I understand that standard EV range is plenty for the vast majority of trips taken by the vast majority of people, but most people don’t want to deal with solving the edge cases that will inevitably come up multiple times in a given year. This will require either standardizing on a system for swappable batteries, dramatic improvements in fast charging infrastructure, or a generational leap in battery efficiency.
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> the problem with EVs aren’t the cars themselves Did we read the same article? The problem was absolutely the cars.
- AlbertCory 2y agoExactly. They didn't fail because customers had "range anxiety."
- lttlrck 2y agoTo me it seems the "problem" shifted away (quite some time ago) from range anxiety toward to inconvenience due to charging infrastructure.
- dieselgate 2y agoAlmost two sides of the same coin?
- constantcrying 2y agoThis wasn't the problem for Fisker though. They just failed at delivering a quality product.
- speedgoose 2y agoThe more realistic option is improvements in fast charging infrastructure. It’s what happened in Norway. Don’t expect big leap in battery efficiency anytime soon, and battery swapping projects tend to fail already without the standardisation challenge.
