I have to deal with overly loud cars and they're the ugly topping on a bitter cake (automotive individual transport). I can confirm the people in my street are not the fans of those drivers that keep them driving. It's not like if we just ignored them that problem would go away.
- elmerfud 2y agoWell then I apologize for my rather pointed comment as I didn't read yours and the way it was intended. I would consider myself a car enthusiast or maybe an overall vehicle enthusiast. I don't have any obnoxiously fast cars now but did in the recent past. It was a Corvette with extensive modifications but the one thing I did keep was the factory cat-back mufflers and exhaust. Regardless it was still quite loud when you wanted to drive it fast almost as if it had no mufflers on it at all. That being said I always drove it quite moderately through towns and residential areas where the noise level was reasonable. I currently have three motorcycles two of which are sport bikes. There is no modern sport bike where modifying the exhaust system provides you any performance gains for the street. Also no street legal bike that is used on the track will gain any performance by modifying the exhaust. You need a full dedicated track bike for that and a world-class rider to extract the benefits. I agree with the overall sentiment that people who modify their exhaust systems, using the excuse of performance gains, is complete nonsense. The reason they do it is because they're obnoxious a-holes and that's the only reason. You can tell this because the Harley people are obnoxious a-holes. I do know many people who do have modified cars and bikes that are obnoxiously loud and they never once receive a ticket on it. There is a general lack of police enforcement around this kind of stuff even with community complaints it is often ignored by the police because it's simply not worth their time. I'm not sure why it's not worth their time but it's ignored by the police. I think in general if people started receiving tickets on a regular basis the average vehicle enthusiast would make their vehicle less loud. In this specific case it doesn't work because these aren't considered moving violations. So there's no points against his license and the ticket is insignificant compared to the income from the viewership. Most vehicle enthusiasts don't have a viewership that is making it financially viable to continue to pay tickets. As a larger thing there is a lot of obnoxious idiots that have a viewership that causes them to get paid for socially obnoxious things that bother the community. that's really the root behavior that needs corrected here is getting people to have a higher sense of themselves to not reward the obnoxious fools with a viewership and money for being obnoxious fools.
