We had the Atari 2600 VCS and were waiting for the Keyboard upgrade to turn it into a computer. My father was upset that it never came out and switched us to the Commodore 64 instead of the Atari 800. The Atari 400 was limited, much like the Commodore VIC-20, it was a long-end affordable computer. None of my friends had an Atari 8-bit computer, I got on Atari BBSes with my 300 BAUD VICMODEM and debated the Atari vs. Commodore debates.
