You'll be paying taxes on that land, do you actually own it?

  Of course I own it. I also utilize all of the public infrastructure around my land and enjoy the fact that I don't have to resort to armed patrols to protect it from roving bands of raiders, so yeah, taxes.

  Not necessarily. Much of Alaska has no property tax, plus you get a paycheck on oil dividends.
