How It feels to get an AI email from a friend
- JohnFen 2y ago> It wasn’t sent to test AI, or to show it off, as in “ha ha check this out”; my friend had a question to ask me, and the email asked it over the course of a few paragraphs. It then disclosed that, oh by the way, I used AI to write this. If one of my friends did this, I would be deeply insulted. Not just because I would think that a real friend would know I wouldn't appreciate it, and not even because it was written by AI. I'd be insulted because it wasn't written by my friend. Ignoring the AI aspect, composing an email this way is no different than if my friend had asked someone else to write the email for him instead of talking to me directly. It would be a pure WTF moment.
- unraveller 2y agoI'm all for an AI receptionist layer in digital comms. Async comms is such an inferior way of experiencing human relationships so the sooner people stop expecting their "friends" to express themselves jovially in the text medium just to provide them message bubble dopamine hits at expected rates, the better.
