On the other side of the iron curtain, for example.
- Rinzler89 2y agoAh yes, Soviet style, being held at gunpoint by a totalitarian regime seizing all workers' wealth and pocketing themselves, is definitely what socialism is all about, because that's what the USSR chose to call themselves. /s I heard North Korea calls it's self a democracy too since it's in their name. Please tell me how democracy is a failure because of that.
- RandomLensman 2y agoWhy would you only look at the USSR? Look at the GDR, for example - it wasn't a monolith in the Eastern Bloc as far as socialism is concerned.
- Rinzler89 2y agoWhen did the Germans living in the GDR democratically elect to be under soviet communist rule?
- RandomLensman 2y agoThat has what to do with the (large) means of production being owned by the state? When people had a chance they opted for capitalism, if that's what you mean.
- Rinzler89 2y agoIt doesn't occur to you that a nation being oppressed by a foreign puppet regime against the will of its citizens, will do poorly economically? To you, it's the central planning and state ownership that causes economic collapse?
- RandomLensman 2y agoNot sure "foreign puppet regime" really characterises, for example, the late GDR's government properly. Anyway, yes, the state run economy was doing poorly (especially compared to small capitalist bits).
