- leansensei 2y agoIt wasn't real socialism last time.
- lotsofpulp 2y agoAnd it won't be next time due to how humans (like many, many other animals) work.
- truckerbill 2y agoI guess the Danes are enlightened
- RandomLensman 2y agoThe means of production are pretty privately owned in Denmark.
- Rinzler89 2y agoThe point is the results of the worker's labor are more fairly shared in Denmark than in other places.
- RandomLensman 2y agoThat doesn't make Denmark a socialist country.
- Rinzler89 2y agoYou keep confusing socialism with totalitarian communism despite everyone here telling you that.
- RandomLensman 2y agoWhere do I do that? The two are not the same, but socialism is also not the same as social democracy, for example.
- truckerbill 2y agoyou're conflating socialism and communism again...
- RandomLensman 2y agoNo I am not. Means of production being under social ownership instead of privately owned is a core characteristic of socialism but it does allow limited private ownership (some property, perhaps some small businesses but certainly not large industrial capacity). Denmark's industry is privately owned - if Denmark were a socialist country, that would not be possible or at odds with Denmark being socialist.
- Rinzler89 2y agoWhich was that "last time"?
- RandomLensman 2y agoOn the other side of the iron curtain, for example.
- Rinzler89 2y agoAh yes, Soviet style, being held at gunpoint by a totalitarian regime seizing all workers' wealth and pocketing themselves, is definitely what socialism is all about, because that's what the USSR chose to call themselves. /s I heard North Korea calls it's self a democracy too since it's in their name. Please tell me how democracy is a failure because of that.
- RandomLensman 2y agoWhy would you only look at the USSR? Look at the GDR, for example - it wasn't a monolith in the Eastern Bloc as far as socialism is concerned.
- Rinzler89 2y agoWhen did the Germans living in the GDR democratically elect to be under soviet communist rule?
- RandomLensman 2y agoThat has what to do with the (large) means of production being owned by the state? When people had a chance they opted for capitalism, if that's what you mean.
- Rinzler89 2y agoIt doesn't occur to you that a nation being oppressed by a foreign puppet regime against the will of its citizens, will do poorly economically? To you, it's the central planning and state ownership that causes economic collapse?
- truckerbill 2y agoSocialism isn’t authoritarian communism- it could be as simple as pulling the tax regime away from the neoliberal doctrine. At the moment we encourage rentseeking and punish labour/productive work. Cheap healthcare housing and education at the expense of less billionaires PS - the last time we tried a world war it didn’t end well either, i think the stakes are that high
- RandomLensman 2y agoHealthcare and education is cheap/free compared to the US in lot of places that are not socialist in any meaningful way.
