It blew my mind when I found out orbitals can be thought of as harmonic modes of a sphere. Sad that it took until 4th year quantum chemistry to find that out.

- JeremyHerrman 2y agoSame here! Spherical harmonics finally explained why the 3d orbital has the donut shape. Why isn't this taught in high school?!
