Launch from inside an Apollo capsule (restored in 4K/30 FPS) [video]
- RyanShook 2y agoSince this launch was unmanned how were various events triggered?
- rbanffy 2y agoMost likely by ground teams operating the spacecraft remotely. There isn’t much for humans to do in a spacecraft that can’t be done by automation, unless something goes wrong.
- rzzzt 2y agoMost of them are sequenced. Around 6:10 the video goes through a series of buttons, most of which are called "Backup switch to do X" because when everything goes as planned, no button push is needed to perform the action.
- actionfromafar 2y agoAre the instruments a simulation or actual footage?!
- minedwiz 2y agoGiven the date and that it's a Saturn-1B, that would make it AS-202, one of the early test flights. So instruments probably real, but not final hardware.
- actionfromafar 2y agoI mean, is it footage from the test?
- minedwiz 2y agoFound it cool that this has the real sound of the master alarm in it; the movie version from Apollo 13 was dramatised.
- chilling 2y agoThe amount of work that someone put into this video is just mind-boggling! The sound of the stage separation was extremely loud, it must to have been a very stresfull moment for anyone onboard during that time.
- minedwiz 2y agoIf you liked that, check out the onboard camera of Soyuz MS-09's launch: https://youtu.be/fr_hXLDLc38?t=302 https://youtu.be/fr_hXLDLc38?t=302 I timestamped that to 2nd stage separation, and it gives a cool impression about what it's like (particularly the astronaut on the left's reaction).
- chilling 2y agoO, thank you man! They are, however squeezed like 3 people in the single ToiToi. 3rd stage separation is even more dramatic https://youtu.be/fr_hXLDLc38?feature=shared&t=548 https://youtu.be/fr_hXLDLc38?feature=shared&t=548
- salesynerd 2y agoI really didn't notice how long the video was as I was busy trying to absorb all the information being provided on-screen and, simultaneously, marveling at the hard work and sheer technical brilliance of the French Space Guy, the creator of the video. Hats off to them.
