First get your solutions to work. Then improve them. In my experience FAANG companies just want to see you solve the problem and then if you have some mastery you can improve it or you’ll have one of the optimal solutions from the jump.
- MakingMyWay 2y agoI've been able to write working solutions for all the problems till now. It is just the runtime that worries me because they are mostly below average. If you are right and FAANG companies just care about the working solution, then I think I'll keep grinding for now and come back to these problems later for a more optimal solution.
- gigatexal 2y agoTheir immediate follow up will be “can you improve this solution?” In either complexity or runtime or memory usage etc. but even if you can’t having a solution that works is better than not completing it at all. A good interviewer is trying to get you to do these to see how you think. Not if you’ve memorized all the solutions. So I meant very much to give you props for being able to solve them so they work but also to say think how you might fix them to run more efficiently as that’s what they will ask next.
