Shopify did very well connecting small makers/vendors to customers. Granted, to your point they are now trying to go for big vendors, thinking they can somehow unseat amazon. Probably won't work out well for them either.
- Sabinus 2y agoShopify last year gated a lot of customisation functionality behind a 2.5k a month subscription. They certainly are pivoting away from small shops.
- actionfromafar 2y agoIf Shopify can avoid beating themselves up against the behemoth that is Amazon in a full-frontal assault, while also stay less crappy than Amazon, I think Shopify is on to something. Amazon can't un-crappify themselves, it's not in their DNA.
- crabmusket 2y agoShopify is not a marketplace, is it? When I want to buy something I don't go to shopify.com and search for it. I think this is a critical distinction.
- fire_lake 2y agoYou’re right, but Shopify is trying to change this with the Shop app
