- ynniv 2y agoWhy is playing Minecraft fun, but digging mines is not? Seems the same to me
- brigadier132 2y agoDigging mines involves actual physical toil. Coding and minecraft both involve sitting and clicking things on a screen. Let's try another analogy
- ynniv 2y agoThe corporate world beckons you.
- brigadier132 2y agoI've worked in big tech, my side projects and hobbies are not in any way equivalent to work in a job while on the surface they both involve coding. But even corporate work can be fun if you approach it in a detached way while understanding (accurately) that it doesn't really matter. This is a privilege you have when you don't have children or debt.
- moffkalast 2y agoReal life mining would be fun too if you didn't get tired and could respawn if you died. And if you could tell if that pile of dirt you're looking at has 0.1% gold in it or not. AGI robots are really gonna have a blast doing things.
- nitwit005 2y agoBaring the possibility that you can trick yourself into finding anything fun (in which case, I guess you experience joy all the time? Jealous), no one is in control of what they find fun. The why of it doesn't matter in a practical sense.
