Not sure if there's any other profession than software that has such a hard time with proportionality. We can seemingly with a perfectly straight face argue that yes this massive Rube Goldberg machine was required to avoid that small nuisance that feels wrong but actually isn't something that consumes time at all. Imagine if a carpenter or plumber acted like this; having self-fulfillment as prio 1, 2, 3 in all cases, not outcome. They'd never get hired again.
