I think "I remember when Google was a small a scrappy" doesn't seem to jive with a guy who joined Google the year it went public at a $23b valuation. But I guess looking back at that $23b from the helm of a $2.18t behemoth is like ringing that same bell at $23b reminiscing about Google was a small and scrappy, $242m...wait a second...
For all the comparisons Pichai gets for what he's doing to what Steve Ballmer did at MSFT, at least Ballmer was employee 30 and his war stories were from lived experience. Sundar walked in to a 6 figure job, free food, and the Googleplex and is talking like he was hot-swapping harddrives in the original garage.
