Lithium Ion fires are no joke but I thought the crews on international flights were able to disassemble the seats? I've only ever done a trip once on a lie-flat seat, but it was malfunctioning and the attendants basically had to work the mechanism directly. I would be very surprised if nobody on the crew knew how to do this.
> Maybe some of you are wondering how this is even possible, or maybe that a stuck laptop simply shouldn't have caused this. Why not just leave it stuck until the plane reaches its destination? I don't know. But considering this entire ordeal likely cost the airline well over six figures, I guess it was all done in the name of safety.
FWIW, that's exactly why it's done. I suppose that there was just no available seats for the unlucky passenger to move to, so they likely took the shortest route back to a safe landing: https://onemileatatime.com/news/united-767-diverts-laptop/ https://onemileatatime.com/news/united-767-diverts-laptop/
