Hundreds of Stars Have Vanished Without a Trace. A New Study Could Explain Why
- h2odragon 2y agoor they might have been consumed by giant interstellar squid.

- h2odragon 2y agoThat would leave traces of marinara sauce and and expanding cloud of garlic fumes. Perhaps these signatures could be detected somehow.
- Jimmc414 2y ago"The team looked at a binary star system at the edge of the Milky Way known as VFTS 243, comprising of a main sequence O star and a black hole orbiting each other every 10.4 days" - sounds intense!
- zeristor 2y agoO type stars don’t last long they’re large and so burn fuel faster and are far brighter. However, if these two stars evolved as a binary system, the black hole star would have been brighter to have gone through a super nova first. Can an O type star still be an O type star after its close neighbour blows up and produces a black hole? It couldn’t be a stellar capture could it, the capture would need to lose a huge amount of relative velocity. I guess I just need to read the paper.
