I think openai looks pretty bad right now, especially with the "her" tweet, but I can't honestly say these voices sound similar. The her clip is so iconically scarjo and I don't think the sky voice is even that close. I'm not a voice expert and I dont know all the technical terms but it isn't very similar in tone, cadence, or what I want to call texture (?) I wanted to laugh at and belittle openai when I first saw scarjos claim that her friends and family couldn't tell the difference but from the samples you just linked I find that so unlikely that I think she is lying.

  Please don't post like this, for a couple reasons: one is that it "never does any good and makes boring reading", as the site guidelines have said for many years: https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html. The other reason is that in cases where a comment didn't deserve to be downvoted (which you're right, was the case here), fair-minded users will usually come along and give the post a corrective upvote (https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sort=byDate&type=comment&query=corrective%20upvote https://hn.algolia.com/?dateRange=all&page=0&prefix=true&sor...). Which fixes the problem except then comments like your reply here linger on as inaccurate—there's no garbage collector to take care of them.

Uh, those don't sound like the same person at all. The former uptalks (high rising terminal) a lot. The cadence is different, the pitch is different. > It looks? like you're part of some recording? or production setup? With those lights? tripod? and possibly a mic? It looks like you might be gearing up to shoot a video? or maybe even a live stream? They both have a vocal fry, but the former sounds more like valley girl without the slang or vowel lengthening.
