My personal definition of "engine" had to have something combustible inside it that caused motion. So fossil fueled cars and buses and rockets had steam engines and internal combustion engines and rocket engines, but electric cars like tesla have motors!
- hypertele-Xii 2y agoSteam isn't combustible? What about the Stirling engine, powered by heat gradient and air?
- jabl 2y agoSteam engines and Stirling engines are both examples of "External Combustion Engines", whereas piston engines and gas turbines are examples of "Internal Combustion Engines" (ICE).
