I would have been curious to read about WhatsApp since it is a widely used app. Also for youtube I use NewPipe which I find incredibly good (no ads, can manage playlists and audio only).

Yes, WhatsApp works perfectly fine (including notifications) on plain Lineage - even without microg. It doesn't integrate with Lineage's backup system though, you have to use WhatsApp's own transfer system.
