The misleading, wasteful way the US measures gas mileage
- quantified 2y agoW.r.t. the basic issue of the article, the issue is simple math literacy or convenience of thinking patterns. However, people tend to seek convenience. I'm always following the formula $/mi as the money involved in trips is also pretty important. It's variable based on the locations, hence more complicated and ultimately less accurate to predict, but for homo economicus it's the one that matters most daily. Mpg is most relevant when you have to find the next gas station.
