Lets say this goes to the court. I wonder how would they prove if a 'voice' belongs to a person. This is such a grey area, how does some one own a 'voice'. Also similar doesn't mean same.
Plus this opens the door for all kinds of things. Say tomorrow some one makes a AI that sings. And they make any lyrics, and make a AI sing it, say in a voice that's very close to their favorite singer. Would that qualify as illegal?
Would be interesting to see how that legal side of things in this regards unfolds.
- kolinko 2y agoThat is quite easy - you show the training data and provide the details of a person whose voice it was. With purely synthetic voices, it’s gray area just like with most of the other genai.
- kamaal 2y agoHow is this any different than text, photographs or anything for that matter. By this definition all AI is illegal. Besides, how does one prove a recording is of a particular person's voice? The AI might be generating voice similar to that of Scarlett Johnson, but its still not her voice. Similar != Same.
