Are cells conscious? I presume yes. I've seen a video of a white blood cell chasing after a bacteria trying to evade, around obstacles, and its pretty dramatic. Since at one point we were just two cell, all that was required for us to be conscious must have been already encoded in those cells. Unless you want to argue consciousness spontaneously arises out of a grouping of specific cells. In which case the grouping of those cells was also already encoded in those two cells.
