Simple. Because I don’t think either article belongs here. The decision to stay home with children or work is something almost everyone struggles with. This isn’t unique to Mormonism as the author imagines it is. This is just a complicated way to complain about religion, which is not what hacker news should be used for.

- bobs_salsa 2y agoThen you should’ve said that first instead of beating around the bush with the what-about-ism. The author is discussing the impact a society/institute can have on an individuals choices later in life through the lens of their experience within Mormonism. They never attempt to gatekeep that it’s a unique thing Mormons go through. Ultimately she discusses a topic that encompasses all STEM industries at the moment, which is equal opportunity and free choice. As a result I’d argue it’s very topical for HN irrespective of the religion.
